The COVID-19 Pandemic and Its Effect on Press Freedom in Southeast Asia, by Ratna Ariyanti

Ratna Ariyanti is a second-year PhD student at E.W. Scripps School of Journalism, Ohio University. Her proposed doctoral research is related to collaborative journalism within newsrooms. Prior to pursuing her PhD, Ratna worked as a full-time journalist then joined the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) Asia Pacific as a Southeast Asia Coordinator. She helped the journalists’ union to monitor press freedom violations and strengthen solidarity among journalists in the region.

My Fulbright Experience, by Mohammad Jawad Jahid

Mohammad Jawad Jahid is a first-year Master of Public Health/Veterinary Public Health student at The Ohio State University College of Public Health. He arrived from Afghanistan in August. He has 8 years of experience working in Afghanistan, most recently as a project officer for the International Fund for Agriculture Development Asia. IFAD has the goal of improving food security and economic status of 58,000 rural families in Afghanistan. He is also a professional boxing athlete, claiming the 60 kg championship golden belt of professional boxing as of last year in his country.

Transnational Identities and Evolving a Reverse Global Gaze in Visual Representations in a Digital World, by Uma Vangal

Uma Vangal is a Fulbright research scholar affiliated with the film department at Kenyon College. She is a filmmaker, film professor and public speaker who specializes in Film and Gender and popular cinema as a social lens, using the Fitmus Test to read films from a woman’s perspective. The current research fellowship was granted for me to explore a collaborative approach to documentary filmmaking to better represent transnational and cultural identities on screen
